Tips on Writing Wiki Articles

Why create a wiki?

  • Increase awareness. Jigsaw gets millions of page views per day. Because our Company data and wiki information is downloadable and "open source", millions of business professionals come to Jigsaw to access this free data. When your Company data is correct you gain valuable exposure to qualified buyers!
  • Drive traffic to your site. One of the best known SEO tricks is to write an article on Wikipedia. Regrettably, most Companies do not meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. On Jigsaw all Companies are notable (and welcome!).
  • Control. Use the "Watch Company" functionality to be alerted when anyone makes changes to your Company's wiki. Jigsaw is all about the wisdom of crowds - but not everyone in the crowd is always wise!

General Tips:

  • Avoid "MarketSpeak". Wikis should be factual. Avoid adjectives and superlatives like "biggest", "best", and "We're #1!". Save the promotion for your website. People read wikis for facts, not opinion.
  • Tell Your Story. Wikis are a great place to talk about the history of your Company and the story behind it. We also suggest talking about things like funding history, timelines, and achievements/awards. Check out Jigsaw's wiki for ideas.
  • Start with an Overview. Make your first paragraph be a crisp and concise overview. Many Jigsaw visitors are time crunched. Give them a bite-sized piece first - hopefully they'll want more!
